The Harken 227 is a 22 mm double micro block with a becket. Micro blocks are small, lightweight and free running, and this one has stainless steel sideplates with Delrin ball bearings. The shackle pin is 3/16 inch in diameter. Harken points to light control lines for it, including cunninghams, outhauls, vangs, traveler controls and flag halyards.

Our take

With Delrin ball bearings in stainless sideplates, the 22 mm double block runs freely, and the becket gives you a fixed point to start a small tackle. It is sized for light control lines like outhauls, cunninghams and traveler controls.

From our buying guide

Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.

Check before you buy:

  • A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
  • Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
  • A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
