Everything you need to know about buying and selling on Skipper's Locker.
Your card is authorized at checkout but not charged until the seller purchases a shipping label. If the seller doesn't ship within the deadline, the authorization expires and you are never charged.
All sellers agree to provide honest, detailed descriptions and real unaltered photos. Our AI flags listings that don't appear to contain marine parts, and our moderation team removes misrepresented items. If what you receive doesn't match the listing, report an issue from your order page within 7 days of delivery.
Report an issue from your order page within 7 days of delivery. Escrowed funds are held until it's resolved. Skipper's Locker mediates and makes a final determination based on the listing details, photos, and both parties' communications.
Private-party sales are generally final unless the item materially differs from the listing. We're not a retail store — the seller is another marine enthusiast. Ask questions before buying.
Skipper's Locker currently ships only within the continental United States. We don't serve Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or international destinations at this time.
Yes — guest checkout is supported. Just enter your email at checkout. You can convert to a full account later using the same email without losing your order history.
The seller enters approximate dimensions and weight when listing an item (our AI helps estimate these from photos). At checkout we fetch live rates from multiple carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx) and you choose the one you prefer.
There are no listing fees, monthly fees, or hidden charges. Skipper's Locker takes a 8% platform fee from the sale price when a transaction completes. Stripe also charges a small payment processing fee.
You must ship within 2 business days of the sale. If you miss this deadline, the order is automatically cancelled, the buyer is never charged, and your listing goes back on sale.
Buyer funds are held in escrow until delivery, then a 4-day inspection window passes without a dispute. After that, the sale minus the platform fee is released to your Stripe balance. Stripe pays out every Friday; deposits typically land in your bank the following Monday or Tuesday.
No — all shipments must use the pre-paid label generated through Skipper's Locker. This is required for tracking-driven escrow release and dispute protection.
Tracking updates from the carrier determine when payment is released. If a package is marked lost, contact us and we'll work with you and the carrier on a claim. Make sure to package fragile items carefully — marine hardware is often heavy and has sharp edges.
Hazardous materials (flares, fuel, batteries with acid, compressed gases), stolen property, counterfeit parts, items requiring special licensing (certain EPIRBs), complete vessels, trailers, and engines over 25 HP. See the Seller Terms for the full list.
Yes — upload 1 to 10 photos and our AI (powered by Claude Vision) identifies the product, suggests a title and description, picks a category, estimates condition, and proposes shipping dimensions. You review and adjust before publishing. Most listings are live in under 60 seconds.
Yes — any listing you own can be edited from your dashboard until it sells. If you significantly change the item's condition, price, or description, consider creating a new listing so prior viewers see the change.
Three big differences: (1) marine-specific — every category, attribute, and search filter is designed for boat gear; (2) AI-assisted listings — photos do most of the work; (3) built-in escrow — buyers are protected and sellers get paid predictably on a weekly Friday schedule.
A marketplace. Skipper's Locker doesn't own inventory — we connect private buyers and sellers. We facilitate payments, shipping, and dispute resolution but aren't a party to the transaction itself.
