The Nikon Prostaff P3 10x30 is a binocular with a 114.9 m field of view at 1000 m. The glass is lead- and arsenic-free eco-glass. The eyecups turn and slide, and retract for eyeglass wearers, with 15.4 mm of eye relief. A dry nitrogen fill is there to stop fogging. It weighs 465 g and is protected against splashes and bad weather rather than made for underwater use.
Our take
The 15.4 mm eye relief and eyecups that retract for glasses make the P3 10x30 workable for glasses wearers. Its water protection is described as splash and bad-weather resistance, not underwater use, so keep it out of the drink.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
