This is a Harken 40 mm triple Carbo block with a swivel head and no becket. It is long glass fiber injection molded and weighs 4.6 oz. Safe working load is 1,455 lb and line size tops out at 3/8 inch. The head can be locked in either of two directions or left free to swivel. Harken points it at jib and main sheet systems on fast dinghies.
Our take
With three sheaves, a 1,455 lb safe working load and a weight of 4.6 oz, this block is built for heavily loaded sheets. The head locks in two directions or swivels freely, and line size is limited to 3/8 inch.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
