The ECHOMAP Ultra 2 166sv is a large touchscreen chartplotter with a 15.6 inch diagonal Full HD display running at 1920 x 1080 pixels. This version carries Garmin Navionics+ mapping and is sold without a transducer. The unit has built-in CHIRP traditional sonar along with ClearVu and SideVu scanning sonar, and it supports the LiveScope line, with transducers sold separately. It joins an NMEA 2000 network for heading sensors, autopilots and audio gear. It weighs 9.5 lbs and runs on 9 to 18 Vdc.
Our take
The 1920 x 1080 panel on a 15.6 inch diagonal gives you room to split charts and sonar without squinting. But with no transducer in the box, the built-in sonar does nothing until you add one, and a 6.6 A peak draw at 12 V is worth planning wiring around.
From our buying guide
What's in the box depends on the part number: Raymarine sells one screen display only, with charts, with a transducer, or with both. Not every chart card fits every plotter, either.
Check before you buy:
- The part number includes the charts and transducer you expect.
- It reads the charts you want, and you know how long their updates last, since many come with a one-year subscription.
- A touchscreen suits your helm, since Raymarine warns that prolonged rain or water wash can cause false touches.
