An older Campbell catalogue, writing about welded chain, says shackles should have at least the working load limit of the chain they are used with. If not, the assembly is rated to its weakest component.
Check before you buy:
- The maker states a working load limit and how it's worked out, since Crosby lists a 6:1 design factor and Mantus one fifth of the breaking strength.
- That limit holds the way you'll load it, since Crosby says it is reduced for side loading.
