The Vortex Diamondback HD 15x56 is a 15x binocular with 56 mm objective lenses and 15.6 mm of eye relief. It shows a 230 ft field of view at 1000 yds and focuses as close as 14 feet. It weighs 34.8 oz. A GlassPak harness comes with it to keep the binocular close at hand.
Our take
At 15x with 56 mm objectives, the Diamondback HD narrows to a 230 ft field of view at 1000 yds and weighs 34.8 oz. That much magnification and weight argue for bracing against something firm when you look, rather than holding it free.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
