The Rule 13A is a 12V Gold Series submersible bilge pump rated at 3700 GPH with a 1-1/2" discharge outlet. It is non-automatic, so it needs a separate float or switch to start. It has a 5/16" stainless steel shaft, a nylon/fiberglass impeller and a snap lock strainer made to resist clogging. The motor survives running dry, and the pump carries CE and ISO 8849 certification.
Our take
Rated at 3700 GPH, this pump's output falls to about 75% with the discharge hose 6 ft above it, so judge it by the lift in your own installation rather than the label. It is non-automatic, so it needs a separate float or switch to run.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
