This is the 331 lb (150 kg) size of the Rocna original anchor, a roll-bar and scoop design with a hot dip galvanized finish. Its sharp, chisel-like tip is made to cut into weed, grass and kelp, and the anchor is tempered 800 mPa high tensile steel. Rocna backs it with a lifetime warranty against breakage or deformation, and a slotted attachment point lets the head of a shackle pass. The maker's own sizing advice stops at the 110 kg (243 lb) anchor.
Our take
At 331 lb (150 kg) this Rocna is bigger than the 110 kg size where the maker stops giving sizing advice. For vessels that large the maker says classification society rules or legal requirements are likely to set the anchor size, so check those first.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
