The Rocna MK II is a scoop-style anchor in galvanized steel, here in the 9 lb size. A roll-foil hoop brings it round to a good angle for digging in, and a concave fluke with a weighted chisel tip is meant to hold in soft bottoms and cut through hard or weedy ones. The shank has a patented I+V profile for extra resistance to bending. The maker backs each anchor for life against manufacturing defects, breakage and bending.
Our take
The I+V profile shank is the part to look at. The maker says its I-beam shape resists bending, and the lifetime warranty names bending as well as breakage, so the strength of the shank is promised in writing at this 9 lb size.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
