The Rocna MK II is a scoop-style anchor in galvanized steel, here in the 20 lb size. A roll-foil hoop brings it round to a good angle for digging in, and a concave fluke with a weighted chisel tip is meant to hold in soft bottoms and cut through hard or weedy ones. The shank has a patented I+V profile for extra resistance to bending. The maker backs each anchor for life against manufacturing defects, breakage and bending.
Our take
The I+V profile shank is the part to look at. The maker says its I-beam shape resists bending, and the lifetime warranty names bending as well as breakage, so the strength of the shank is promised in writing at this 20 lb size.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
