The Rocna MK II is a galvanized steel scoop anchor, here in the 33 lb size. A roll-foil hoop helps it land in a good orientation, and a strong I-beam style shank carries the load to a larger, weighted fluke. The concave fluke gives resistance in soft bottoms, while the weighted chisel tip cuts through hard or weedy ones. A lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects as well as breakage and bending.

Our take

On the 33 lb Rocna MK II, the weighted chisel tip is what cuts through hard or weedy bottoms, while the concave fluke supplies the resistance in soft ones. The lifetime warranty explicitly covers bending and breakage, not only defects.

From our buying guide

The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.

Check before you buy:

  • You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
  • It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
  • The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
