The Polyform HTM-2 is a pink through-hole fender measuring 8.5 inches by 20.5 inches. HTM stands for hole-through-middle, so a line runs through the length of the body. The ends of that tube are reinforced, which keeps a line from pulling through if the fender wedges somewhere tight. The body is moulded with vertical ribs for strength and abrasion resistance, and the wall is kept an even thickness. Polyform rates it for medium-duty use at permanent moorings, whether protected or open.
Our take
The HTM-2 is a hole-through-middle fender, so its reinforced tube ends carry the load where the line passes; the maker says they keep it from pulling through if the fender is caught. At 8.5 by 20.5 inches it is rated medium-duty, which is the limit to keep in mind.
From our buying guide
Polyform says to use at least three fenders when docking, and Taylor Made's rule of thumb is one for every 10 ft of waterline per side. Both makers hedge their size charts, so allow for your boat and where you moor.
Check before you buy:
- The size is on that maker's own chart for your boat's length.
- Your fender line suits the eye, since Polyform says too small a line can cut through a vinyl eye.
- You'll inflate it to the maker's figure, since two makers say over-inflating voids the warranty.
