The PROSTAFF P7 10x30 is a roof prism binocular from Nikon with antireflective lenses, dielectric prisms and an oil and water repellent coating on the glass. The body is a closed-bridge design on a reinforced polycarbonate chassis. It is nitrogen filled and sealed against water and fogging. The diopter locks so your setting is kept, and the field of view is 346 feet.
Our take
A locking diopter keeps your eye adjustment from drifting once it is set, so the pair stays tuned to you through handling. At 10x30 the field of view is 346 feet, and the nitrogen-filled body is sealed against water and fog.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
