The Mustang Survival Khimera 22 is a hybrid PFD in an adult universal size. It pairs 8 lbs of foam flotation with a CO2 inflatable cell that gives 22 lbs when inflated, and a manual pull takes total buoyancy to 22.5 lbs. Shoulder straps adjust for fit, and the vest is re-armed with the MA7116 Kit G.
Our take
The Khimera 22 carries 8 lbs of foam flotation, so it floats before any inflation, and pulling the manual inflator lifts that to 22.5 lbs. Inflation is manual, so the wearer has to pull it.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
