The Marinco 10108 is a mini dual trumpet air horn with a 12 volt compressor, in solid brass with a chrome plated finish. The diaphragm is a non-corrosive Lexan polycarbonate. The kit includes the compressor, air tubing, fittings and hardware. The compressor produces 9-11 PSI, the horn is rated 127 dB(A) at one meter, and the fundamental frequencies are 630 and 525. Maximum draw is 20 amps at 12 volts.
Our take
Two trumpets tuned near 630 and 525 and a rating of 127 dB(A) at one meter give this air horn a loud two-tone voice. The compressor draws up to 20 amps at 12 volts, so the supply wiring needs to be sized for that current.
From our buying guide
A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.
Check before you buy:
- You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
- You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
- You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
