This is a 24 volt dual trumpet air horn kit from Marinco. It comes with the horns, the compressor, air tubing, fittings and mounting hardware, and the diaphragm is Lexan, which does not corrode. The pair of trumpets sounds at 375 and 315 Hz, each give or take 15 Hz, and the maker rates the output at 120 dB at one meter. The compressor measures 2-5/8 inches across by 5 inches long and draws up to 10 amps at 24 volts.
Our take
The compressor draws up to 10 amps at 24 volts, so its supply wiring has to carry that. The Lexan diaphragm does not corrode, and the 375 and 315 Hz pair is rated at 120 dB at one meter.
From our buying guide
A boat of 12 m or more must have a whistle, and one of 20 m or more a bell as well. Under 12 m it need not carry them, but must have some other means of making an efficient sound signal.
Check before you buy:
- You aren't comparing loudness across makers, since they measure it at different distances, or give no distance at all.
- You can mount a fixed horn facing forward and as high as possible, as Kahlenberg says to.
- You have any parts the maker leaves to you, such as a horn button and fuse.
