This is the 45 lb size of the Mantus M1, a scoop-style anchor made in stainless steel. The shank is 2205 duplex and the fluke is 316L stainless, shot-peened and then electro-polished. There are no cast parts in it. It comes apart into flat pieces, so it can be stowed easily, and bolts hold the shank and roll bar onto the fluke, with four of them carrying load. The maker names very hard sand and dense grass among the bottoms it is designed to set in.
Our take
The 2205 duplex shank and 316L fluke are shot-peened and electro-polished, a finish the maker says is for corrosion resistance. Because it breaks down into flat components, a spare can be stowed without taking much space.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
