This is the 105 lb size of the Mantus M1, a scoop-style anchor in stainless steel. Its shank is 2205 duplex, the fluke is 316L stainless, and the surface is shot-peened before electro-polishing. No part of it is cast. The anchor separates into flat components for easy storage. Four bolts in the assembly are load bearing. The maker says it is designed to set in challenging bottoms such as very hard sand or dense grass.
Our take
Four load-bearing bolts hold the shank and roll bar assembly together on this 105 lb M1, and the whole anchor breaks down into flat components. That makes it a heavy anchor you can still take apart for stowage.
From our buying guide
The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.
Check before you buy:
- You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
- It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
- The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
