The Bushnell A3 8x32 is a centre-focus binocular with 8x magnification and 32 mm objective lenses. Its field of view is 388 ft at 1000 yd, which works out to 128.8 m at 1000 m. The body is nitrogen filled, so it is waterproof and resists internal fogging. Focus is by a central wheel with a slip-resistant grip. The binoculars weigh 18.9 oz and focus as close as 9.8 ft.
Our take
The 388 ft field of view at 1000 yd is a wide frame for 8x, which gives you more water and shoreline in view at once when you are looking for a mark. The nitrogen-filled body is sealed against water and internal fogging, so spray should not cloud it.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
