The Bushnell A3 10x32 is a roof prism binocular with BAK4 prism glass and fully multicoated optics. The 32 mm objectives are paired with 10x magnification, and the field of view is 103.6 m at 1000 m. Close focus is 9.8 feet. It is nitrogen filled to be waterproof and resist internal fogging. The centre focus wheel has a slip-resistant surface, and the binocular weighs 18.5 oz.
Our take
The nitrogen fill makes the A3 10x32 waterproof and resistant to internal fogging, a sensible base for salt spray and cold mornings afloat. Its slip-resistant focus wheel is meant to stay easy to turn in cold, and the 103.6 m field of view at 1000 m is the figure for scanning.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
