The Blue Sea e-Series 9001e is a battery selector switch rated 350A continuous, switching batteries isolated or combined. It is the version without an alternator field disconnect. Contacts are make before break, and the 3/8 inch tin-plated copper studs take battery cable up to 4/0. It is ignition protected, with textured knob positions you can find by feel, and the case mounts on the surface or flush.
Our take
A 350A continuous rating, make-before-break contacts and ignition protection make this a capable selector for a gasoline boat. This version has no alternator field disconnect (the 9002e adds it), so there is no diode protection if the knob is turned to OFF with the engine running.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
