Manuals

A single-circuit on/off battery switch from Blue Sea's m-Series. It connects one battery to one load group, and several switches can be used together to manage separate circuits. Continuous rating is 700 amps. The case can be mounted on a surface, a front panel or a rear panel, and the studs are 3/8 in.-16 tin-plated copper. The switch is ignition protected, so it is safe to install aboard gasoline powered boats. Textures on the knob let you tell its position by feel.

Our take

The 700 A continuous rating on a switch this small means a single on/off position can carry a heavy load. With one battery feeding one load group, it works as a plain master cutoff, and the ignition protection covers gasoline boats.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
