A single-circuit on-off battery switch that connects one battery to one group of loads. It is rated for 300 amps continuous and 500 amps for 5 minutes, and it is ignition protected, so it is safe to install on gasoline powered boats. The case can be mounted on a surface, front panel or rear panel, and a snap-on isolating cover shields the rear contacts.
Our take
The 300 amp continuous rating, with 500 amps allowed for 5 minutes, sets the ceiling for the one circuit this switch controls. It switches a single battery only and has no combine position, so it won't work as a two-bank selector.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
