Manuals

The Gusher Titan is a manual pump from Whale in the thru-deck/bulkhead version, with 1-1/2 inch hose connections. At 45 strokes per minute it moves 18 GPM with 3 ft of lift and 17 GPM with 6 ft, and its self-priming height is 13-1/2 ft. A spring-assisted valve helps it prime and guards against valve collapse. The body is glass-reinforced polypropylene, which resists corrosion.

Our take

Rated 18 GPM at 3 ft of lift and 45 strokes a minute, this hand pump loses little output as the lift doubles, with 17 GPM at 6 ft. The maker also calls it less tiring over long periods, which counts when you are pumping for a while.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
