- 42 mm
The Steiner BluHorizons is a 10 x 42 roof prism binocular with AutoBright adaptive lens technology. It has a central focusing wheel, 16 mm of eye relief and a 6 ft close focus. The field of view is 300 ft at 1000 yds, and the eyecups fold down for use with eyeglasses. The housing is water-resistant with an IPX4 rating.
Our take
Folding eyecups make these 10x42s usable with eyeglasses, and the central focus wheel needs little rotation to move from close up to infinity. Water resistance is only IPX4, so plan on spray and splashes rather than immersion.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
