This is a three-strand twisted nylon anchor line from Seachoice, measuring 3/8 inch in diameter and 50 feet long. It is white with a blue tracer woven in, and it comes with a galvanized steel thimble at the end for shackling on an anchor. The nylon is meant to absorb sudden shock loads, and the tracer gives you a visual cue for checking wear as the line ages. No chain is included, so the rode is rope only.

Our take

The 50 foot length sets your limit: that is all the rode you have to pay out, so scope depends on water depth. The nylon three-strand build is meant to soak up shock loads, and the tracer lets you eyeball wear before it matters.

From our buying guide

The Coast Guard's general guidance is to let out five to seven times the depth of water plus the distance from the surface to the bow. Samson says nylon is used in anchor lines because its elasticity absorbs shock loads.

Check before you buy:

  • The length gives you that scope in the water where you anchor.
  • The chain included is what you want, since products include different lengths of chain: 4 ft in some and 15 ft in others.
  • You can get at any rope-to-chain splice, which New England Ropes says to check regularly and remake at any evidence of wear.
