The Rule LoPro LP900D is a 12V, non-automatic bilge pump rated at 900 gph and only 2-1/4 inches high. It is switched by a separate float or a panel mounted switch. The discharge body swivels up to 180 degrees, and multiple discharge ports are included. It can run dry, has tricuspid check valves against backflow, and carries a 3-year limited warranty.

Our take

Rated at 900 gph, this pump loses about 8% per foot of lift, so the height of the outlet above it cuts real delivery. At 2-1/4 inches tall it suits tight spaces, and being non-automatic it needs a separate float or panel switch.

From our buying guide

Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.

Check before you buy:

  • The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
  • An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
  • You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
