This is the automatic 12V version of Rule's LoPro bilge pump, rated at 900 GPH and only 2-1/4 inches high. Its sensing is built in, so it does not need a separate float switch. It wakes every 2-1/2 minutes for roughly a second to check for water. The discharge body swivels up to 180 degrees, and the pump can run dry without motor burn-out. Rated flow drops about 8% per foot of lift. It carries CE and ISO 8849 certification.
Our take
At only 2-1/4 inches high, this pump is made for tight spaces, and its water check every 2-1/2 minutes replaces a separate float switch. The 900 GPH figure is before lift, so expect about 8% less per foot of lift.
From our buying guide
Rule and Johnson both say their bilge pumps are not intended for damage control. Flow falls as the discharge head rises, and the length of the hose, its bends and any check valve reduce it further.
Check before you buy:
- The maker's own table shows the flow at head, since how much a pump loses depends on the model.
- An automatic pump also has a manual switch, which ABYC's voluntary 2005 standard calls for.
- You'll fuse it to the maker's figure.
