The Onyx MoveVent is a foam-flotation paddle sports vest, approved by the U.S. Coast Guard as a Type III life jacket. It is built for canoe, kayak and SUP use, with a sculpted, flexible shape meant to stay in place as you move. This XL/2XL size fits chests from 44 to 56 inches and wearers of 90 lb and over. Mesh ventilation runs front and back, reflective SOLAS grade material helps you be seen, and a whistle is attached to the vest.
Our take
The lower back mesh is the useful detail here: it is made to sit under high back seats and on sit-on-top kayaks, so you are not leaning on bulky foam. With vented panels front and back, it should stay comfortable on warm paddling days.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
