This is a compact Nikon binocular with 8x magnification and 25 mm objective lenses, built around BAK4 Porro prisms. The body is covered in rubber armour. The optics are nitrogen filled and the maker calls them fogproof and waterproof. Field of view is 109.56 m at 1000 m, eye relief is 15.5 mm, and the whole thing weighs 355 g.
Our take
At 355 g with 25 mm objectives, this 8x25 is light enough to wear around your neck all day on deck. The nitrogen filling and the fogproof, waterproof rating mean spray and damp air should not cloud the optics.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
