This is a compact Nikon binocular with 10x magnification and 25 mm objective lenses, built around BAK4 Porro prisms. The body is covered in rubber armour. The optics are nitrogen filled and the maker calls them fogproof and waterproof. Field of view is 86.98 m at 1000 m, eye relief is 16 mm, and the whole thing weighs 365.72 g.
Our take
The 86.98 m field of view at 1000 m comes with 10x magnification, so the picture is tight and a pitching deck will test how steadily you can hold a target. The nitrogen-filled, fogproof and waterproof body keeps damp air out of the optics.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
