The Mustang Survival Classic Bomber Flotation Jacket is a USCG approved Type III PFD in orange and black. Size XX-large fits a 50 to 54 inch chest. Closed-cell foam gives flotation and also insulates in the water, to slow the onset of hypothermia. The T1 version adds SOLAS reflective tape on the chest and each wrist, 62 sq inch in all. Buoyancy is 69 N (15.5 lbs) and the jacket weighs 3.2 lbs.
Our take
The closed-cell foam in this jacket does two jobs, giving 69 N of flotation and insulating in the water to slow hypothermia, a useful pairing for cold water. The reflective tape on the chest and wrists gives rescuers something to catch at night.
