This is the Jabsco Twist 'n' Lock manual marine toilet with the household-size bowl. It is hand pumped, with a self-priming pump that can be installed above or below the waterline, and the outlet elbow turns to any position. A single 90° handle turn compresses the cone-shaped piston. Crevice-free contours and smooth moldings add hygiene, and the external seal housing allows quick seal replacement.
Our take
The locking handle is the point of this toilet: a quarter turn holds the piston down so waste can't creep back past the valves into the bowl. Because the pump primes itself, you can place it above or below the waterline, which gives you more say over where it goes.
From our buying guide
A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.
Check before you buy:
- You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
- It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
- If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
