This Jabsco electric marine toilet has a regular bowl in the household size, with a soft close lid, and runs on 24 volts. It has its own self-priming rinse pump, and flushing uses raw water only. A built-in backflow preventer stops flooding and waste coming back into the bowl. The design allows discharge overboard or to a holding tank, and it can sit up to 3 feet (1 m) above or below the waterline given suitable plumbing. Materials are corrosion resistant.
Our take
The built-in backflow preventer stops flooding and waste coming back into the bowl, and the 3 foot (1 m) mounting allowance above or below the waterline gives some freedom in placement. Note that the rinse pump takes raw water only.
From our buying guide
A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.
Check before you buy:
- You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
- It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
- If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
