Manuals

The Harken 2135 is a 57 mm ratchet block on a swivel head. Its ratchet adds up to 10:1 of holding power, and it can be switched on or off from either side of the block. The sheave is machined aluminum with a Hardkote anodized finish and eight facets for gripping the line. Its diameter is 2-1/4 in (57mm). The side plates are nylon resin packed with long glass fibers, which replaces stainless reinforcing straps.

Our take

Up to 10:1 of extra holding power from the 57 mm ratchet lets you hold a loaded line and release it under control. The on/off switch is reachable from both sides of the block, so you can turn the ratchet off when you don't want it.

From our buying guide

Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.

Check before you buy:

  • A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
  • Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
  • A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
