The Harken 2137 is a cheek ratchet block with a 57 mm (2-1/4 inch) sheave. The sheave is machined, anodized aluminum with eight facets to grip the line, and the sideplates are nylon resin packed with long glass fibers. The ratchet switches on and off from the center airhole, and Harken says it adds up to 10:1 holding power. The maximum line size is 3/8 inch, and the safe working load is 500 lbs.
Our take
The 57mm ratchet switches on and off from the center airhole and adds up to 10:1 holding power, so a loaded line can be held by hand and let go with control. Keep the 3/8 inch maximum line size and 500 lbs SWL in mind.
From our buying guide
Ball-bearing blocks give the lowest friction on lines running under moderate loads. Plain bearings have more friction, but handle very high and static loads.
Check before you buy:
- A ratchet block is rated for the full sheet load.
- Any becket's load limit suits the job, since a becket can be rated below the block itself.
- A soft-attach block will be looked after, since Harken warns soft attachments are prone to wear and recommends them only for regularly maintained race boats.
