The Dometic SaniPottie 962 is a self-contained portable toilet with a 2.5 gallon holding tank under a separate 2.6 gallon flush water tank. Side latches lock the two tanks together, and the body is molded from high density polyethylene. Flushing is by a bellows pump, and emptying means carrying the tank base off the toilet and pouring it out. It measures 12-1/2 inches high, 14-1/2 wide and 16-1/2 deep. Every part and seal can be replaced by the owner.
Our take
The 962 has no tank level indicator, so nothing built in tells you when the 2.5 gallon holding tank is getting full. Emptying means carrying the base ashore and pouring, which keeps the design simple but makes tank size a practical limit.
From our buying guide
A vessel with installed toilet facilities must have an operable marine sanitation device that is labeled or certified. EPA says untreated sewage may not be discharged within three miles from shore, and in a No Discharge Zone treated sewage may not be either.
Check before you buy:
- You have what it needs, since heads may call for 12-volt power, through-hulls and seacocks, or a separate vacuum source.
- It fits the compartment, since Jabsco says an electric toilet needs more space at the rear than a manual one.
- If it could sit below the waterline, you'll fit a vented loop as the maker specifies, since Jabsco warns the vent, not the loop, is what stops the siphon.
