The Bushnell PWV1632 is a Powerview 2 roof prism binocular with 16x magnification and 32 mm objectives. The chassis is all metal, the eyecups fold down, and the exit pupil is 1.8 mm. It weighs 310 g. Bushnell lists it as not water resistant and not waterproof or fogproof, so it is a dry-use pair.
Our take
The all-metal chassis is the build detail here, in a 310 g roof prism pair. But it is listed as not water resistant and not waterproof or fogproof, so on a boat it belongs in a case or below, away from spray.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
