The Bushnell PowerView 2 PWV1050 is a 10x50 porro prism binocular built on an all-metal chassis, with a textured rubber armor covering for grip. Exit pupil is 5 mm and eye relief is .63 in, with twist-up eyecups. Closest focus is 7.62 m and the whole binocular weighs 790 g. It has no water resistance and is not fogproof, so it needs to be kept dry.
Our take
The PWV1050 has no water resistance and no fogproofing, so it belongs in the cabin or a dry bag, not on a wet cockpit seat. The all-metal chassis adds toughness against knocks, but at 790 g it is a dry-weather glass first.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
