The Xantrex XPLORE 120/12 is a 12V marine battery charger rated at 120 amps across up to six banks at once. It can charge two banks of differing chemistries, and Xantrex lithium and custom charging is supported. Input is auto-ranging, 80 to 265 Vac at 45 to 65 Hz. NMEA 2000 connectivity is built in, the case is drip-proof, and it can bring a battery as low as 0V back up.
Our take
Charging up to six banks at once, with two chemistries allowed, lets one 120 amp unit serve both a house bank and an engine bank, which is the use the maker describes. It is only drip-proof, so mount it somewhere dry.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
