The Xantrex TRUEcharge3 is a compact 24 V onboard battery charger with a nominal 20 A output split across three DC output connections, so it can look after three banks from one unit. It runs multistage charging with settings for gel, flooded, AGM and LiFePO4 batteries, and takes 90-265 Vac at 47-63 Hz. The case is drip-proof, rated IP32, weighs 2.2 kg and can be mounted in several positions.
Our take
The 90-265 Vac, 47-63 Hz input range means this charger can sit on foreign shore power or a shaky dock supply without needing a different unit. The IP32 rating is drip-proof only, so mount it somewhere dry rather than in a wet locker.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
