The Xantrex Truecharge2 is a 3-bank battery charger for 12 volt systems, rated at 40 amps of charging current. It accepts a supply anywhere from 90 to 265 volts. Protection includes reverse polarity, over and under temperature, and battery overcharging, and the charging is temperature compensated for the battery it is feeding.
Our take
A 40 amp rating at 12 volts is the figure to check against the size of your battery bank, with three banks to charge from it. Temperature-compensated charging adjusts the output to the temperature of the battery, so a bank that runs warm or cold still gets a sensible charge.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, not the battery's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- Its output suits your bank. ProMariner recommends about 10 percent of the batteries' total amp-hour capacity, with one charger output for each battery.
- It suits how you'll use it, since ProMariner says its waterproof chargers are for batteries not in use while charging.
