The Whale WaterMaster FW0814 is a compact automatic pressure pump for a boat's water system. It delivers 8 litres per minute at 30 psi on 12V, and its internal pressure switch means no external switching is needed. It is self priming up to 3 m (10 ft), tolerates running dry within reason, and has a strainer to keep debris out of the pump. It takes 15 mm quick connect plumbing or 1/2 inch hosetails and works with salt or fresh water.
Our take
Self priming up to 3 m (10 ft) and an internal pressure switch that needs no external switching keep the FW0814 simple to plumb in. At 8 L/min and 30 psi on 12V it also takes 15 mm quick connect fittings, and it tolerates dry running within reason.

Size a freshwater pump by the outlets that must run at once. Jabsco's rule of thumb is 1 GPM per outlet, and the listed flow is open flow, which falls as pressure rises.
Check before you buy:
- The data sheet shows flow at pressure. One Shurflo gives 4.0 GPM at 0 psi and 2.0 GPM at 40 psi.
- You have an inlet strainer, which Jabsco says is required in every freshwater pump installation.
- An accumulator suits the pump. Jabsco says one cuts cycling on a pressure-switch system, and not to use its accumulators with variable-speed pumps.
