The Whale V Pump is a hand operated galley pump with a capacity of 8 litres (2.2 US gallons) per minute. It is suitable for both fresh water and saltwater. The base is narrow, so it can be installed between two sinks. The spout is angled and adjustable in height, and the extended spout makes it easy to fill containers. Size a freshwater pump by the outlets that must run at once. Jabsco's rule of thumb is 1 GPM per outlet, and the listed flow is open flow, which falls as pressure rises.
Check before you buy:
- The data sheet shows flow at pressure. One Shurflo gives 4.0 GPM at 0 psi and 2.0 GPM at 40 psi.
- You have an inlet strainer, which Jabsco says is required in every freshwater pump installation.
- An accumulator suits the pump. Jabsco says one cuts cycling on a pressure-switch system, and not to use its accumulators with variable-speed pumps.
