Manuals

This is the Whale UF1215, a 12V pressure pump rated at 3.2 GPM. Its pump head has 4 diaphragms for a smooth, constant flow, and the unit is described as quiet in operation. It can run dry without damage and self-primes up to 3 m (10 ft). The wires and pressure switch are housed inside, and an inlet strainer is included. It is suitable for both saltwater and freshwater, and its mounting arrangement is meant to fit existing installations.

Our take

Running dry without damage and priming itself up to 3 m (10 ft) are the features that count on this 3.2 GPM pump. An empty tank or a run of dry line will not hurt it, and the inlet strainer and inside-housed pressure switch keep the plumbing simpler.

From our buying guide

Size a freshwater pump by the outlets that must run at once. Jabsco's rule of thumb is 1 GPM per outlet, and the listed flow is open flow, which falls as pressure rises.

Check before you buy:

  • The data sheet shows flow at pressure. One Shurflo gives 4.0 GPM at 0 psi and 2.0 GPM at 40 psi.
  • You have an inlet strainer, which Jabsco says is required in every freshwater pump installation.
  • An accumulator suits the pump. Jabsco says one cuts cycling on a pressure-switch system, and not to use its accumulators with variable-speed pumps.
