This Victron cable plugs into the VE.Direct port of BlueSolar and SmartSolar MPPT charge controllers and gives remote on/off control. A high signal on the cable turns the charger on; if the signal is pulled low or the wire is left floating, the charger switches off. The larger SmartSolar models already have their own Remote On/Off terminal, so they do not need it. Using the cable takes over the VE.Direct port, which then cannot be put to any other job.
Our take
Non-inverting logic means the charger runs only while the signal is held high, and a floating wire counts as off, so an open or disconnected input leaves it disabled. The cable also takes over the VE.Direct port, leaving it unavailable for anything else.
From our buying guide
On a boat subpart I covers, an electrical component must not ignite fuel vapor around it unless it is isolated from gasoline fuel sources. Ignition protection is the maker's statement.
Check before you buy:
- 33 CFR 183 subpart I applies to boats that have a gasoline engine, except an outboard, so a gasoline generator counts.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
