Victron's VE.Bus Smart dongle is a Bluetooth accessory for its inverter/chargers that have a VE.Bus port, covering the Multi, MultiPlus, MultiPlus-II, MultiGrid, Quattro and Phoenix Inverter families. Paired with the VictronConnect app, it lets you watch the system and operate it, including changing the input current limit and the Off, On and Charger-only modes. The dongle can also serve as a voltage and temperature sensing unit for the inverter/charger, and that function works with every model. Its Instant Readout puts the unit's key data, along with warnings, alarms and errors, on the VictronConnect device list without opening a connection.
Our take
The Instant Readout puts warnings, alarms and errors on the VictronConnect device list, so a glance at the app shows whether the inverter/charger has flagged a problem, with no connection needed first. The same dongle also does voltage and temperature sensing on any model.
From our buying guide
On a boat subpart I covers, an electrical component must not ignite fuel vapor around it unless it is isolated from gasoline fuel sources. Ignition protection is the maker's statement.
Check before you buy:
- 33 CFR 183 subpart I applies to boats that have a gasoline engine, except an outboard, so a gasoline generator counts.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
