The VE.Bus BMS V2 is a battery management system for Victron Lithium Battery Smart 12,8V and 25,6V batteries used with inverters or inverter/chargers on VE.Bus. It raises a pre-alarm when a cell is heading toward under voltage and shuts off loads or charging through its disconnect outputs. It runs from a 9 to 70 V DC supply, has 2 RJ45 sockets for VE.Bus, and draws 10 mA in regular operation. The case is rated IP20 and the operating range is -20 to 50 °C.
Our take
The pre-alarm output warns of an imminent cell under voltage before loads are cut, which gives some time to act. It is made for Victron inverters or inverter/chargers on VE.Bus, so it fits a system built around other inverter brands poorly.
From our buying guide
BCI defines a battery management system as an electronic system that monitors a battery's condition, performance and health. Some lithium batteries have one built in and some need an external unit.
Check before you buy:
- Battle Born warns that a BMS shutdown leaves the vessel without power, and that one during alternator charging can severely damage the alternator.
- There is no one low-temperature limit for charging lithium, so take it from the manual for the battery you have.
