This is a Victron SmartSolar MPPT solar charge controller with MC4 connectors for the panel side, two pairs of them. It is rated at 60 A charge current with a 150 V maximum PV open circuit voltage, and it has Bluetooth built in. Nominal PV power is 860 W on a 12 V bank and 3,440 W on 48 V. Maximum efficiency is 98 %. The case is IP22 at the connection area and IP43 over the electronics.
Our take
Nominal PV power of 860 W at 12 V rising to 3,440 W at 48 V shows how the 60 A charge rating caps the array on a low-voltage bank. The controller is specified for indoor, unconditioned conditions, so it needs a dry spot away from spray.
From our buying guide
NMMA says charging sources must meet the charging profile the battery maker recommends. A charger's presets are its own maker's, so set it from the battery maker's figures.
Check before you buy:
- It can follow your battery's profile, since not every charger can follow a lithium maker's.
- On a boat subpart I covers, each ungrounded output conductor from a battery needs a manually reset, trip-free circuit breaker or fuse within 72 inches of the battery.
